Play Therapy Groups for Gender Expansive Children

Tuesday, August 02, 2022 11:35 AM | Maureen Johnston

Being a gender expansive child of any age brings with it a wide range of unique challenges. Many do not know any other kids who don’t fit the gender norms, and this can be a lonely, isolating, and confusing experience.

These groups are designed to provide a safe, supportive, fun place for kids to gather with other children who don’t fit our conventional gender definitions. This gives them greater freedom to explore and celebrate their own gender identity.

Activities are designed to help young children learn more about their relationship with themselves, their own bodies, and with the world around them. Age-appropriate expressive arts, games, books, and discussions will be utilized to facilitate self-understanding, emotional regulation, and social skills development.

This is so great! My clients that are gender expansive are closer to tween/teen age but so glad to know this resource exists as more and more clients are falling into expansive and not specific to traditional LGBTQ categories.
