    Mother is seeking therapy for her 10-year-old son whose father died when he was 3 years old. The boy has been exhibiting sadness and frustration about not having a father, and she would like a space for him to process his feelings. The family lives in the Willow Glen neighborhood of San Jose but could also go downtown for services. Referrals for anyone with current availability can be sent to me directly at

    Dear Colleagues;

    I have room in my consultation group for licensed therapists this year, It meets on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month from October to June from 1:30 to 3 PM. If you want to meet with colleagues to look at your cases in depth this might be the right group for you. I have led it for over 20 years and members benefit from the support and stimulation of their peers as well as the new and different perspectives that they gain. Sometimes we explore the interplay between your clinical work and counter transferences but we always respect each members desire to control how much or little we explore.

    Your clinical skills will grow in this group and you will enjoy getting to know well a few other therapists and their work. Hopefully you will benefit from learning my perspective which is psycho dynamically oriented too.

    Call me if you wish to join or would like more information. My office phone is 650 961 3482.

    On November 12 I am leading a Spirit Rock Restorative Daylong Retreat specifically designed for Medical and Mental Health Professionals. Space is limited to 60 attendees, so please pre-register early:

    The description is below.

    Dharmic Self-care for Medical & Mental Health Professionals

    Chronic stress, overwhelm, secondary trauma, empathic distress, and rising job dissatisfaction draw increasing numbers of physicians, nurses and mental health professionals to seek help. Many realize how pushing through chronic exhaustion and the daily grind of mainstream health care delivery undermines their physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. This daylong is only open to medical and mental health professionals. This will provide a safe, colloquial environment for allowing body, mind and heart to rest and restore. We will alternate periods of qigong and meditation with teachings from Buddhist psychology and an exploration of the G.R.A.C.E Model for compassionate patient interactions. Leave renewed with a set of practical, easy-to-apply restorative skills for somatic, mental and emotional well-being.

    If you wish to share this with others at your organization, I have a flyer for the event which I can email. Contact me at:

    Consultation Group for licensed clinicians, held on two Thursdays  every month from September to June.  This group is a supportive environment in which therapists explore their clinical work as much or as little as they wish.  We take some time to discuss new professional information but most of the interaction is around case presentations which can be in the form of vignettes or formal case presentations. Please call me if you are interested in knowing more about this group.  650 961 3482.

    Hello, all,

    I am looking for someone to do individual therapy with a 47 YO woman in my Life Beyond Mental Illness group (Redwood City).  She suffers from depression, although currently functioning well enough to be without medication (and has no psychiatrist).  She lives in Sunnyvale and is willing to travel anywhere between San Jose and San Mateo.  She is on MediCal in Santa Clara County but would prefer to use her Victim Witness benefit, which expires around March 2018.  I feel it's important for her to have the individual support and will collaborate to help meet her needs.

    Thank you, in advance, for any leads.

    Deborah Runyeon, MFT
