Hello colleagues,
Evergreen Counseling just hired two extremely seasoned and exceptionally skilled EMDR-Certified therapists who are taking on new EMDR clients *anywhere* in California for telehealth EMDR sessions Monday through Saturday (yes, Saturday!).
Cindy Hernandez, LCSW, Ph.D and Stephen Duraney, LPCC.
Both have dedicated their lives and careers to helping people overcome their trauma impacts and they are taking on new EMDR clients *anywhere* in California. We couldn't be more honored that these two exceptionally seasoned clinicians chose to join us and let Evergreen be the home for their extraordinary clinical work.
We wanted to briefly introduce them to you:
Cindy Hernandez, LCSW, Ph.D
Cindy is one of the most talented clinicians we’ve ever met and she’s dedicating her life to helping those who come from relational trauma histories. We're genuinely humbled by her commitment to healing work.
Her clinical specialties include:
Anxiety & OCD
Attachment Trauma
Childhood Trauma
Complex Trauma
C-PTSD
Emotional Abuse
First Gen Trauma
Intergenerational Trauma
First Responder Trauma
Military/Combat Trauma
Psychological Abuse
PTSD
Sexual Trauma
Here’s what she has to say about her EMDR therapy work:
“Throughout my life, I have experienced much pain and loss, all of which have fostered resiliency, compassion, and a deep desire to partner with others in cultivating the meaningful and peaceful life they want to live. It is through EMDR, both as a clinician and a client, that I found the answers I was looking for—to not only achieve healing for myself but to be able to offer it to others as well.”
Read more about Cindy here.
And now we want you to meet Stephen.
Stephen Duraney, LPCC
Stephen is not only one of the best clinicians we’ve ever met, but we can also genuinely say that we feel a teeny bit jealous of his children because they get to have someone like him for a father (so imagine how good of a therapist he is, especially for those who have attachment trauma!).
His clinical specialties include:
Depression
Grief and Mourning
Medical Trauma
Relational Trauma
Religious Trauma
Substance Use/Abuse
Here’s what he has to say about his EMDR therapy work:
“As a former member of the Army National Guard, I witnessed firsthand the results of trauma and stress and the havoc that they can wreak on a person’s life. Counseling was a natural step into a field that has equipped me with the experience and knowledge to help people develop their inner strength, build deeper relationships with the people around them, and rediscover their joy. I have a heart for helping people arrive at this type of insight and change. In addition, I enjoy getting to learn from clients each day and the personal growth that comes with accompanying you on the journey towards healing.”
Read more about Stephen here.
If you need to make referrals to EMDR therapists, I wanted you to know about Cindy and Stephen. They are truly top-tier clinicians and fully dedicated to helping clients resolve their trauma symptoms with EMDR.
If any prospective client is curious about EMDR with either Cindy or Stephen, please know that you can view their up-to-the-minute openings, fees, and contact details here, and/or at any point they can simply book a complimentary 20-minute matching consultation call with Stephen here or Cindy here and/or take the first steps and book a full first therapy session.
I hope that it feels helpful to know about these two cream-of-the-crop EMDR clinicians joining Evergreen and that they have room for new EMDR clients now.
Warmly, Annie

I'm pleased to say that Evergreen Counseling's newest team member started today and I wanted to make you aware of him in case you need to make referrals for more seasoned EMDR work.Stephen Duranay, LPCC (an EMDR Consultant-In-Training) is currently accepting new clients who present with more acute and complex trauma cases.
Stephen is extensively trained in the treatment of trauma across a wide range of populations (including adolescents, veterans, active substance users, sex addicts, and the medically compromised) and is clinically equipped to work with more acute cases where co-morbidities and larger degrees of behavioral addiction and dissociation might be at play.
He has a particular interest in anda soft spot for supporting those experiencing C-PSTD symptoms.
In addition to being highly trauma-trained and very close to receiving his EMDR Consultant-level status, he’s also just the nicest, warmest, kindest person and someone who could be a real reparative experience for anyone needing a gentle male clinician.
Stephen is accepting new clients Monday through Friday, 8am-2pm PST. He’s happy to work with someone as an exclusive EMDR therapist or to support your work with them adjunctively as they see him for short-term EMDR to move through stubborn trauma memories that aren’t budging with regular talk therapy.
Prospective clients can learn more about Stephen on his bio page here, book a complimentary 20-minute consultation call with him here, book a full first therapy session with him here, and see his up-to-the-minute openings and information about his fees here.
Thank you for considering Stephen for any EMDR referrals you may need to make. He’s a top-tier clinician and is eager to support anyone with unresolved and challenging trauma symptoms.

In case any of you need to make referrals for more acute trauma cases to seasoned EMDR clinicians (Certified and Consultant-in-Training-level), I wanted to let you know that Evergreen Counseling recently hired three more EMDR-Certified and Consultant-in-Training level clinicians who are seeing clients in-person in Berkeley and remotely (all across California) now.
Smita Kapoor, LMFT, Stephen Duraney, LPCC, and Tina Larson, LPCC are highly seasoned in EMDR and can work skillfully with more acute clients such as those who might come from complex trauma/developmental trauma backgrounds and present with dissociation, addiction, compulsions, and disordered eating as a result of their trauma experiences.
They will see clients in-person in our Berkeley-based Evergreen offices as well as remotely across California and can provide EMDR therapy exclusively or adjunctively to your work with them.
Smita is an EMDR-Certified clinician likewise deeply trained in PTSD/CPTSD, disordered eating, OCD, chronic pain, and also really enjoys working with those who have experienced the trauma of systemic racism. Please note: she can also conduct EMDR (and all therapy services) in Hindi.
Stephen is an EMDR Consultant-in-Training and a member of the Army National Guard so, in addition to being excellent at treating complex and developmental trauma, has a specialized skill set and body of life experience that equips him well to work with those who have experienced military and combat trauma, first responder trauma, and PTSD.
Tina is an EMDR-Certified clinician extensively trained in the treatment of PTSD, Complex PTSD, Dissociative Disorders, Mood Disorders and Co-occurring Substance Abuse utilizing EMDR Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, parts work via IFS, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
With Smita, Stephen and Tina joining Evergreen, this brings our team of trauma-trained and trauma-informed clinicians to 17 (please see this flier for a snapshot of who we are and what issues we treat).
Also, please know that you and any prospective clients can view our up-to-the-minute openings, fees, and contact details of every member of our team here and/or book a complimentary 20-minute matching consultation call here with our center's clinical intake coordinator - Jennifer - to get matched to an EMDR therapist (or other trauma therapist) that best fits them clinically, relationally, and logistically.
Again, thank you in advance for considering Evergreen as a potential resource for anyone who might benefit from EMDR specifically and/or trauma therapy informed by CBT, DBT, ACT, ARC, and other modalities.

If the answer to these questions is "yes", then we have the workshop for you! Join us at the International Conference on Cultural Lens in Therapy, and learn about more than twenty different cultures, by way of true stories from experts all over the world. Because Stories Matter! Stories heal. Stories connect us to each other at the deepest levels. We invite each other to the unseen, untold, unheard parts of us. We create bridges by unfolding our stories from one culture to another. Culture is essential to everyone's core meaning-making processes. Cultural values shape our relationships, ways of behaving, thinking, feeling, sensing ourselves, and our core beliefs. Culture is not a thing that a person 'has', but an integral part of every person's way of processing. A Cultural Lens is the way you perceive the diverse cultures that exist in society. At this conference we will learn how to apply our cultural lens in therapy, in order to become more accessible, responsive and engaging in our ongoing professional relationship with clients, and we explore how the use of a cultural lens can act as a tool for avoiding mistakes and creating a deeper connection. Raha Foundation is proud to present a storytelling series from around the globe: A Cultural Lens in Therapy Join us March 4th & 5th, 2022 20 speakers---from Iran to The Netherlands to Uganda and beyond--- share their personal stories of how culture helped shape them. Like a sight-seeing bus, you can "hop on" to the segments you'd like to hear and "hop off" if you need to step away, *all from the comfort of your home or office, with no COVID test required! *CEU's can only be awarded to participants who attend all segments. https://youtu.be/K2bvHfT0-bM Please check Raha's website for more information and registration: https://rahafoundation.org/seminar/ Jila Behnad, MFT, Certified EFT Therapist and Supervisor Adjunct Faculty at Palo Alto University JilaBehnad.com CEO & Founder of Raha Foundation RahaFoundation.org
