    Dear Colleagues,

    • Do you find yourself looking for ways to deepen your clinical training?
    • Do you wish to strengthen your ability to link theory and practice?
    • Are you interested in teaching and training positions?
    • Are you interested in being able to conduct psychological assessments?
    • Are you interested in the different intersections that contribute to clinical practice: theory, research, culture, and social justice?
    • Are you excited about the new prospects and professional benefits of a doctoral degree?
      • Our curricular emphasis on holism, depth, and diversity distinguishes us from most other educational options in the field. While our focus is on contemporary psychodynamic theory and practice, we teach from an integral pedagogical perspective and offer a critical and unique view of the discipline.
      • The PsyD program seeks to push psychodynamic psychotherapy forward.  In accordance with our commitment to integral education and the University’s ideals, we challenge and expand it through engagement with other paradigms and traditions. Our faculty is interested in the many intersections among psychodynamic psychotherapy and humanistic, existential, somatic, and transpersonal psychotherapies.
      • We actively cultivate dialogue between Western psychology and other wisdom/spiritual traditions. Students in the program take cutting-edge electives in areas such as Buddhism and psychotherapy, mindfulness and meditation, comparative mystical practice, psychedelic studies, dialectical-behavioral therapy, and other third-wave interventions, as well as a periodic (and optional) travel course to Sri Lanka to study Ayurvedic medicine, folk life, and other indigenous forms of wisdom.
      • Up to 30 units of master’s-level coursework may be applied toward the doctoral degree upon admission. In addition, one (prior) master’s level practicum, if completed previously and verifiable, can be applied to one practicum within the doctoral practicum sequence. In some cases, students can use their current clinical patients as the basis of the second practicum in conjunction with our in-house training support*.
      • The program prepares graduates for licensure as a psychologist in California and many other states.

The PsyD program begins accepting applications today, November 15, 2017, for the inaugural 2018–19 cohort. Please visit for more information.

    Dear Colleagues;

I have room in my consultation group for licensed therapists this year, It meets on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month from October to June from 1:30 to 3 PM. If you want to meet with colleagues to look at your cases in depth this might be the right group for you. I have led it for over 20 years and members benefit from the support and stimulation of their peers as well as the new and different perspectives that they gain. Sometimes we explore the interplay between your clinical work and counter transferences but we always respect each members desire to control how much or little we explore.

Your clinical skills will grow in this group and you will enjoy getting to know well a few other therapists and their work. Hopefully you will benefit from learning my perspective which is psycho dynamically oriented too.

Call me if you wish to join or would like more information. My office phone is 650 961 3482.

On November 12 I am leading a Spirit Rock Restorative Daylong Retreat specifically designed for Medical and Mental Health Professionals. Space is limited to 60 attendees, so please pre-register early:

    The description is below.

Dharmic Self-care for Medical & Mental Health Professionals

Chronic stress, overwhelm, secondary trauma, empathic distress, and rising job dissatisfaction draw increasing numbers of physicians, nurses and mental health professionals to seek help. Many realize how pushing through chronic exhaustion and the daily grind of mainstream health care delivery undermines their physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. This daylong is only open to medical and mental health professionals. This will provide a safe, colloquial environment for allowing body, mind and heart to rest and restore. We will alternate periods of qigong and meditation with teachings from Buddhist psychology and an exploration of the G.R.A.C.E Model for compassionate patient interactions. Leave renewed with a set of practical, easy-to-apply restorative skills for somatic, mental and emotional well-being.

If you wish to share this with others at your organization, I have a flyer for the event which I can email. Contact me at:
