Description
Presented by Jessica Sorci, LMFT, PMH-C and Rebecca Geshuri, LMFT, PMH-C
Program Goals
The goal of this program is for participants to learn how patriarchy, an inherent and ubiquitous form of cultural oppression, creates and sustains systems of shame in parents, and how to bring healing to those shame systems that negatively inform and influence relationships. By implementing basic concepts of Internal Family Systems, participants will be able to identify components of the client’s (and the therapist’s own) inner shame system and interact with those parts in meaningful, healing ways. Participants will be given a more compassionate and empowered stance for understanding common parenting problems that include anger, power dynamics, humiliation and grief. This workshop is foundational for future workshops that will focus in greater depth on authentic fathering and on the Mothercentric™️ approach to working with perinatal women.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this presentation, attendees will be able to:
1. Articulate two ways in which patriarchy causes and perpetuates symptoms in parents.
2. Name three IFS steps to bring healing to a person’s inner shame system.
3. Name at least 2 kinds of Manager parts that help with the job of parenting.
