Presented by David G. Jensen, JD
Includes 6 CE credits for LMFTs, LPCCs, LEPs and LCSWs
About the Program
After twenty years of practice in the area of mental health law, both at CAMFT and in private practice, and in BBS proceedings as well as civil lawsuits and family law cases, attorney Dave Jensen is amazed how the same sorts of issues keep surfacing.
In this six-hour course, which will meet state requirements for law and ethics, Dave will present these top issues, including what can happen to you and your license if you violate them. He will review principles of law and ethics that are critical for psychotherapists to understand in their practices, including, but not limited to:
The professional judgment rule
The Medical Information Act and its new threat to psychotherapists
Defining the unit of treatment
Defining the patient
The issuance of subpoenas, the service of subpoenas and responding to subpoenas
Creating and maintaining the integrity of the psychotherapist-patient privilege
Interacting with lawyers, especially in family law cases
Assessing for suicidality
Informed consent
Terminating the therapist-patient relationship
Communicating with third parties
Staying out of the BBS' crosshairs and other surprises!
You must pass a test to get the CE credits.
