EMDR Trauma Processing (1.5 CEUs available)
Presented by Philip Manfield, LMFT, PhD
World famous EMRD trainer and author Philip Manfield, LMFT, PhD will demonstrate the amazingly fast transformative power of Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing at our September luncheon. The Bay Area marriage and family therapist will present a videotape in which he works with a client to facilitate profound, sustained change in a single session.
Whether you are a seasoned EMDR therapist or just curious about this seemingly magical, evidence-based method to treat trauma, our program promises to expand your knowledge of the basic principles and learn more about certification from a master trainer.
This is a rare opportunity to hear one of America’s “Greatest Psychotherapists” present his work. Known as a dynamic and interactive speaker, Dr. Manfield will pause the video to take your questions or to explore a fine point in the process.
By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
- Explain the role of eye movements in EMDR Trauma Processing
- Describe at least one mechanism of change in EMDR Therapy
- Explain the importance of identifying dissociation in trauma processing

More than 30 positive controlled outcome studies have examined EMDR therapy. Some studies show that 84-90 percent of single-trauma victims no longer have PTSD after three 90-minute sessions. A study funded by the HMO Kaiser Permanente found that 100 percent of single-trauma victims and 77 percent of multiple trauma victims no longer were diagnosed with PTSD after six 50-minute sessions.
The American Psychiatric Association, the World Health Organization and the Department of Defense recognize EMDR therapy as an effective form of treatment for trauma and other disturbing experiences. More than 100,000 clinicians throughout the world use the therapy to treat millions of people since 1989.
