The Asian and Pacific Islander (API) Support Group provides support to therapists and pre-licensed therapists who are members of SCV-CAMFT and identify as Asian, Asian American, or Pacific Islander. The API Support Group is free of charge for SCV-CAMFT members.

Non-members are welcome to attend two meetings before joining the chapter.

Our mission is to provide a safe space and sense of community for API-identified clinicians to be seen and heard, to develop our clinical identity, and hone our clinical skills.

Our objectives include, but are not limited to:

  • Hold space to understand and celebrate our identities, cultures, and intersectionalities
  • Learn how to hold space for our clients’ API identities and intersectionalities within the context of mental health and wellness
  • Explore challenges and interests, share resources, and exchange ideas

Meetings are online, and we meet on the first Friday of the month from 12:00pm-1:30pm. The video link is provided when you register.

About the Facilitators

Kavita Comoglio, LMFT, works with couples and adults on issues, such as intimate partner and family relationships, life transitions, cultural/racial identity, and personal and professional growth. The majority of her clients identify as BIPOC, queer, immigrants, 1st- and 2nd-Gen Americans, or mixed race, and she especially enjoys working with interracial/multicultural couples. As a South Asian immigrant, she understands the complexity of navigating multiple identities and specializes in creating a space to process and embrace what that feels like. Although she enjoys employing techniques from a variety of theoretical frameworks, her primary orientation is psychodynamic and relational. In addition to her master’s degree in counseling psychology, she holds an MBA and has worked in operations, tech and marketing for global companies and non-profits prior to becoming a therapist. She sees clients in her office located in the East Bay, and she works with clients virtually across California. www.kavitapsychotherapy.com
