Presentation Description

January is unofficially known as ‘Divorce Month’ in the field of divorce. For many, New Year’s resolutions commence a big family change if one parent or another resolves to separate/divorce.

Your couple, individual or child client(s) become a divorcing family - now what??

This 75 minute interactive workshop will help you avoid blurry role lines, prevent burn out from demanding, conflictual divorce individuals and connect you to organisations, trainings and ethical guidelines to keep you and your clients safe.

Participants will explore five key strategies to preserve their therapeutic role while supporting clients through emotionally and legally complex divorces. The workshop places special emphasis on the risks posed by parental conflict, which can challenge a therapist’s neutrality and role clarity.

Attendees will also be connected with relevant organizations, additional training opportunities, and online ethical resources to ensure both client and practitioner safety and role integrity.

    1. Describe 3 mechanisms through which court involved families enter the therapist’s office.
    2. Name 2 professional divorce roles that can function as an adjunct to the therapist to maintain role integrity.
    3. Identify 2 online resources to check ethical guidelines when working with a divorcing or divorced individual or family.
