Dear SCV-CAMFT Members,
One of the things I love most about SCV-CAMFT is the many different ways there are to be part of this community. Our work as therapists can look so different. Some of us are just starting out and working toward licensure. Some are building private practices, supervising associates, leading teams, teaching, or exploring new areas of clinical work. Some of us have been doing this for decades and are looking for new ways to stay connected and inspired. Wherever you are in your career, I hope you know there is a place for you here. And I hope you also know just how much SCV-CAMFT has to offer.
When people think about a professional association, they often think about continuing education and yes, we have that! But our chapter is so much more than just CE credits. We offer a wide range of opportunities designed to meet our members where they are, both personally and professionally. Looking to grow your clinical skills? Join us for training or a workshop. Want to connect with other therapists who share your interests or experiences? Check out one of our community or support groups. Want to meet colleagues and build relationships outside of the therapy room? Come to one of our social or networking events. Looking for professional connection and guidance? Explore mentorship opportunities.
Interested in making a difference beyond your individual practice? Get involved in advocacy or volunteer with the chapter. Curious about leadership? There are opportunities to get involved, contribute your ideas, and help shape the future of our profession and our chapter.
And sometimes, you may not be looking for anything specific at all. Maybe you just want to spend an evening with people who understand the work we do.
That's okay, too.
I have been part of the SCV-CAMFT community for many years, and one of the things that keeps me coming back is the people. I have had the opportunity to learn from colleagues, build friendships, connect with other professionals, and be reminded that we don't have to do this work alone. I also know that we are all busy. Between our clients, families, practices, paperwork, supervision, and everything else life throws at us, it can be hard to find the time to get involved. That's why I want to encourage you to think about SCV-CAMFT in a way that works for you.
You don't have to do everything.
Our members bring so many different experiences, perspectives, identities, specialties, and interests to this profession. I believe that diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and I am proud that our chapter offers such a diverse range of ways for our members to learn, connect, grow, and contribute.
My hope for this year is that SCV-CAMFT continues to be a place where you can find what you need, whether that's education, connection, support, inspiration, advocacy, friendship, mentorship, leadership, or simply a community that reminds you that you are part of something bigger than yourself. I'm so grateful to serve as your President, and I'm excited about what we can continue to build together. I hope to see you at an upcoming training, gathering, networking event, support group, or maybe somewhere completely unexpected.
There is a place for you at SCV-CAMFT. I hope you find it.
Warmly,
Amanda Cortez, LMFT
President, SCV-CAMFT
